The only way to really know is to look for ingredients that have clinical trials done on them, and many products take advantage of this, because they do clinical trials, and they are pretty hookey trials, which in reality do not say anything if their ingredients work.
So you have to be on the lookout, and choose a good ethical company with a high-quality product, like I do. Once I started researching and found a proven good product, my skin got that much better.
