Colavita Olive Oil As Your Soap
IngredientsOne 18-ounce can of Lye
20 cups of Colavita olive oil
5 cups of Distilled Water (Plain tap water contain chemical and bacterial that might cause trouble to your soap making)
1 large stainless steel pot for mixing soap (at least 2 gallon size)
1 heat-proof container for mixing the lye
1 plastic container with a lid
First pour the distilled water into the heat-proof containers. Then pour in the lye and stir the mixture with a spatula until it is properly mixed and dissolved. Word of warning, the mixture will heat up and fumes will appear. So it is best that you mix it properly and leave the room before the fumes appear. After that leave the mixture to cool down at a safe place.
Then once the lye mixture has cooled until it becomes warm, pour in your Colavita olive oil into a mixing bowl and heat it up at the stove. Heat it up until it reaches the temperature of 38 degrees Celsius and use a thermometer for this. If you do not have one, then heat it until you feel the pot feel warm to you. Then turn of the heat.
After that, mix in the lye mixture into the warm oil slowly to avoid causing spills. While mixing, stir the oil with your spatula. They will mix in together and starts to become smoother. Continue to stir for a few minutes more to make sure it is properly mixed. Then use your stick beater or blender to blend it for a short a short period, while stirring it in between. The mixture will slowly become more opaque and thicker, meaning that the trace is occurring. Keep on doing that until it becomes pudding like.
For the final phase, pour your soap mixture into a mold, close the lid and cover it with blankets. Once it is left to cool down, the block of soap will be ready. Then just take out that block and cut it into the size you want. After that, stack your soup on a piece of paper while in a well ventilated place. It should be left to age and cured for about a month before you can use it.
