Adding Volume to Hair with a Flat Iron
To add volume to your hair using your flat iron all you need is dry hair and your hair iron. To get started, section your hair off using hair clips or an elastic so that you can work from the bottom layers of your hair first and then up to the top layers. How to Add Volume to Hair with a Flat Iron -
*Work in sections of 1-2" pieces of hair for best results
*Clamp the plates of your flat iron at the roots of your hair and press plates together so that they gently grip the hair.
*You will glide your flat iron on the section of your hair from root to tip, just as you would when straightening, however, to add volume, you are going to pull the hair straight up and away from your scalp instead of downwards.
Because you are lifting the flat iron upwards this is going to give you lift at the roots, in return adding volume to your hair. If your hair is known to fall flat later in the day you can help avoid this by using a volumizing hair care product before styling the hair with your hair iron. A light spray of flexible hold hairspray once you are finished styling hair also works to help hold your style.
